Michael Jackson 1958-2009

I remember when I was a kid in the 70’s and saw the videos of “Don’t stop till you get enough" and "Can you feel it" They were more than just videos, they were magic.
I fell in love his music right then and there.

Then came Thriller, What can I say about that. It was a global event like nothing before. It was announced that they would show this 15-minute video which was apparently brilliant (which it absolutely was) and was directed by the guy who also directed an American werewolf in London.
That evening the whole family and me were seated in front of the television and were witness to something sensational.

Michael Jackson to me felt like a brother I never knew, a great inspirator, someone who inspired and evoked limitless imagination

And I thank him for that
Peace brother

Tribute to IZ the Wiz 1958-2009

Graffiti artist 'Iz the Wiz' dies

Friday, June 19th 2009, 4:00 AM

Graffiti artist Michael (Iz the Wiz) Martin, a legendary figure who painted scores of subway trains during a prolific career, has died of an apparent heart attack, friends and blogs said yesterday. He was 49.

Martin collapsed at his brother's Florida home early Wednesday, and later died.

Known for his trademark "Iz" tag, Martin grew up in Queens and was a prominent figure among old-school graffiti artists and the hip-hop pioneers who hung out with them.

Just last week, he appeared at a Bronx art gallery where he painted lifesize replicas of subway cars for fans.

His career began in 1972 and spanned decades before the city virtually eliminated graffiti with new subway cars and stepped-up security.

Martin moved to Florida as his health declined in recent years and he had trouble paying rent and health care expenses, friends said.

Online message boards and graffiti appreciation sites were filled with condolence messages for Martin last night.

Martin once served as president of graffiti group The Master Blasters and the Queens division of Prisoners Of Graffiti.

Martin appeared in the documentary film "Style Wars" and portrayed a transit police detective in the film "Wild Style."

His work has been displayed in museums and galleries throughout the world, including a 2001 exhibit at the Queens Museum of Art.

WHEN EVERYTHING TURNS BLUE

Here’s the accelerator
Let the flame burn
On and on
Remember me for now
And who knows forever

Let the light flicker
On and on
Remember me for now
And who knows forever

Keep your love coming forever
On and on
Remember me for now
And who knows forever

Surprise me with a smile
For brighter day
Blazing, blazing
Blazing
Until the end of time

THE BALLAD OF LADY INFINITY

She’s a changeling
Changing the thread of infinity
No particle undetected
No course unset
The one the undo her of her powers
Not yet met

The wind howls through the alleys of the suburbs
Lovers always dangling on a tight rope
The sun sings a song in the saltiest afternoon
Lady infinity soars in
with a sonic boom

Hyacinths, lilacs and daffodils waving in the soft warm wind
Leaves in whirlpool spin
Stay for now
for evermore

With the grass on her back
She tells me
she believes
She likes the warmth on her face
and jubilees
